CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading we are continuing to learn about the structure and organisation of  Narrative texts.

VOCABULARY

Narrative: A narrative text entertains, instructs or informs readers by telling a story.

Internal Plan: An Internal Plan tells the audience what the characters intend on doing or need to do.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to look at a narrative text (can be their readers, a library book or a text of their choice) and ask them to identify and write down the Internal Plan of the characters.

An example may be:

Redbeard watched the enormous Galleon bearing down on his small ship. It was impossible to outgun or outrun his dreaded enemy. Redbeard knew his crew would be shown little mercy by Captain Nightmare once they were captured. His mind raced as he desperately scanned the horizon. It was then that he spotted the tiny island in the distance. If his ship could make it to the island, his crew could hide in the jungle and fight the enemy on their own terms…. (Taken from Redbeard by 3F)
