Student Wellbeing

YOUTH POLICE

On October 31st the Youth Police Education Group came to talk with our grade 5/6 about Cybersafety and Bullying. This is a very important issue and it needs to be communicated on a regular base. The officers discussed the importance of recognising and acting if someone makes you feel safe or uncomfortable. They also ensured that the group were informed on the types of bullying and its affect on others and consequences. They also discussed ways of reporting this to others.

HIGH IMPACT STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT STUDENT WELLBEING IN SCHOOLS

At St John Vianney's our staff are constantly supporting our students in the classroom and on the playground with their wellbeing. These are 7 practical and evidence-based strategies that have a demonstrated significant positive effect on student wellbeing. Student wellbeing is a crucial element in a positive learning environment. These strategies come through with the language we are using daily and from modeling and explicit teaching.  By creating a shared language students know exactly what is expected, how they should treat other and their own rights and responsibilities.

7 High Impact Strategies used:

1. Build relationships with students

2. Facilitate peer relationships

3. Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations

4. Support inclusion and belonging

5. Foster student self-efficacy

6. Engage students

7. Promote coping strategies and facilitate referrals

It is so important families, students and teachers and students collaborate together to get the best results and support students and families best.
