What does the Mooroopna Lions Club do?

We’re a group of like-minded people who jump in when issues arise, to serve the needs of our local community.

* We help when there’s a natural disaster like the recent floods

* We help out at major events, providing BBQ’s etc

* We help community members in need

We’re looking for Lions Club VOLUNTEERS!

We understand it’s not easy for people to commit to becoming service club members due to the challenges of busy lives, SO we’re looking for people who can simply volunteer with us when they have the time.

What does being a Lions Club VOLUNTEER involve?

You will be placed on a Volunteer Register, which means:

You can choose to help out on an ad hoc or semi-regular basis

* You’ll only be called in emergency situations or when we need extra help.

* If you’re unavailable to help when you’re called, that’s okay.

* You don’t need to become a Lions Club member or attend meetings.

New - Mooroopna Community Plan Steering Committee

The group works to implement the Mooroopna Community Plan that has been compiled following surveys and consultation with groups/community members in the Mooroopna community.

The group meets at the Hub in Alexandra St on the first Wednesday of each month at 6.00pm. All Mooroopna residents are very welcome to join. If you have an issue you would like to discuss with the group, you can contact the group by email: mooroopnacommunityplan@gmail.com with your request. Then you will be offered an opportunity to speak at an upcoming meeting.

Resilience in Recovery

If you haven't heard about this program, Resilience in Recovery is a community-led, Government assisted team.

The teams main goal is to provide assistance in community-led recovery with government support. The Flood Recovery team strives to help communities become sustainable, resilient, and better able to withstand future disasters.

Greater Shepparton Secure Kids Project are offering the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) Group Program for FREE and online to parents in Greater Shepparton.

Enabled by the Empowering Communities Project with support from Greater Shepparton City Council, the Victorian Government, and the Rotary Club of Mooroopna.

The 8-week program is being delivered on Monday evenings via Zoom in Term 4 2023, and Terms 1, 2, and 3 in 2024. The program is suitable for parents of children aged 0-12 years.

They offer a variety of activities and outdoor play. The children will have afternoon tea offered to them during the program.

Safe Seats Safe Kids Program

Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre are once again hosting the Safe Seats, Safe Kids program. This is a free service to both fit new and check existing child car restraints. The QR code can be scanned to book an appointment time that suits. This is a great local service to help families ensure their car seats are fitted correctly.

Saver Plus continues to assist school families with education costs.

SAVER PLUS UPDATE.

After many months of planning and reviews, We did it! Saver Plus is now a national program delivered online and expanding nationally, resourced to support disadvantaged Australians anywhere across the country, regardless of their location and gives us the capacity to deliver Saver Plus to more people than ever before. Nine news are airing tonight about Saver Plus on the Melbourne and Sydney 6pm bulletins.

SAVER PLUS SNAPSHOT:

Saver Plus is a free financial education and matched savings program offered to lower-income families to help them budget and save for education costs. In the 10-month program, participants gain financial knowledge, learn healthy savings habits by saving $50 a month, and have their savings matched up to $500 to be used towards school costs such as uniforms, books, laptops, and extra-curricular activities such as sport or music.

At Saver Plus, we pair participants with a savings coach while they budget and save over the next 10 months. Participants attend online Zoom workshops to learn tips, tricks, and information to grow their budgeting and savings skills. Once they reach their agreed savings goal, their savings are matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $500. That means participants save $500 and we match their savings with another $500. $500 saved plus the matched funds = $1000.

A reminder that people may be eligible to join Saver Plus if they meet all the following the criteria:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: You could be eligible to join Saver Plus if you:

Be 18 years or over
Be a parent or guardian of a student attending school, or be attending or returning to
vocational training yourself
Have a current Health Care card or Pensioner Concession card
Have some form of income, for example, yourself or your partner may have casual, part-time, full-time, seasonal, or cash-in-hand employment
Be in receipt of an eligible Commonwealth social security benefit, allowance, or payment
