Dear Kingswood Community,

As we journey through October in our school garden, we're thrilled to share the incredible abundance and experiences our students have encountered. The garden is not just a place for growing vegetables; it's a living classroom that encapsulates our school's values and fosters a love for learning.

Harvesting the Fruits of Our Labor

The term started off on a bustling note, with a garden brimming with ready-to-harvest delights. Our students have been busy gathering an array of fresh produce, including silver beet, spinach, cabbages, spring onions, and onions. Witnessing their awe and wonder as they harvest these vegetables, has been a truly rewarding experience for all involved.

Planting the Seeds of Knowledge

In the coming weeks, we plan to clear the garden beds and let them rest, preparing the soil for our summer crops next year. This process teaches students the importance of crop rotation and soil health, instilling valuable lessons about sustainability and responsible gardening practices.

Cultivating at Home

We believe that growing vegetables isn't confined to our school garden. As we lead the way in inspiring others to dream, learn, do, and achieve more, we encourage you to explore gardening at home. One of the simplest and most rewarding plants to grow is parsley. Whether in a pot or directly in the ground, parsley thrives with just a little care. Our garden experts recommend a 25cm wide pot with drainage holes, well-drained soil, and patience, as parsley seeds can take 14-28 days to sprout.

A Student's Reflection

One of our students beautifully summed up their garden experience: "I don't usually garden, so filling up the punnet with soil was enjoyable because it was something I hadn't done before." This reflects the essence of our garden program, where students learn and grow in new and exciting ways.

Happy Gardening!
