Junior School News
Year 1 and Year 2 Camp/Sleepover
An evening of disco dancing and fun with friends mixed with some charcoal chicken and cupcakes. Students (and teachers!) had so much fun. Congratulations to our Year Two students on completing their first school sleepover! It's a remarkable accomplishment, and your teachers couldn't be prouder of each and every one of you.
Fire Truck Visit
The Highett Fire Brigade came to visit the Junior School to provide us with valuable insights into fire safety. During their visit, we gained knowledge about essential fire safety practices, such as "crawl down low and go go go," how to make a triple zero call, and the significance of families designating a safe meeting spot for evacuation. Additionally, we had the privilege of examining their fire truck closely and even had a hands-on experience with some of their critical firefighting tools.
Poor Miss Donnelly got too close to the action!
Junior School Liturgy
In honour of All Saints and All Souls Day, the junior school came together for a liturgy. We delved into the significance of this day within our Catholic tradition, deepening our comprehension of what it means to be a 'Saint.' Additionally, students were encouraged to reflect and remember anyone dear to them who has passed away.
Prep
This week our Prep's are learning the Floss Rule. If 'F,L,S or Z' come after a short vowel sound in a one syllable word, we double the last letter (miss, doll, buzz, fluff).
In Writing students have been learning to
- convert fragments to sentences
- complete sentence stems beginning with the subordinate conjunctions 'before' and 'after'
In Maths Prep's are currently exploring the concepts of skip counting and grouping.
Year One
Our Year One's are learning the sounds of ou/ow with the 'loud cow' rule.
In Maths students are exploring 3D objects, learning their properties including number of vertices and edges.
Year Two
In Year Two, students are learning the MSL rule 'Seize the Rein' where 'ei' creates both the long 'e' and the long 'a' sounds.
In Writing our Year Two's are learning to identify appositives and match them to nouns or noun phrases.
