As we end our Diwali celebrations, we hope this time brought you joy and celebration with many friends and family. As we reflect on the last two weeks, I am filled with pride at the accomplishments achieved by our students. I have been really pleased to see and celebrate the many talents our students have across our school and the opportunities they have to showcase these at various events: the music concert, inter-school athletics carnival, student leadership speeches, EduDance, and every day within our classrooms. It is true to say, that I have caught myself humming a combination of the school song and the EduDance music more often than not! I look forward to learning more about the Burrendah Way and celebrating the final weeks of 2023 with our school community.
It was wonderful to visit this event and witness our students competing as a team. The skills, sportsmanship, kindness, encouragement, willingness to reach and try their best was fantastic to see. Thank you to Mr Vinci for organising the event with the network of schools, and to our dedicated and committed parents for advocating, supporting, and attending on the day. Keeping active is an incredibly important habit for us all, and one we will continue to instil within our students.
Thanks to our hardworking P&C, our staff, and our students, Crazy Hair Day was a huge success! Greeting families in the morning, I saw cupcakes, popcorn, Coke bottles, flowers, lizards, clips, extensions, roses, and more. The parade in the undercover area was a vibrant sea of creativity and colour. The imagination among our students (and parents – well done) was truly phenomenal. A special mention to those staff who embraced the hype and those who joined me in allowing some of our very excited students to colour our hair. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, and we really appreciate and thank you for your efforts and donations.
Tonight, we are hosting the P&C Disco. This is a much-anticipated community event. To ensure we all remain safe, please ensure you are only entering and exiting the school through the Castlereagh main gate entrance. All other gates will remain locked. Students must remain in the undercover area and can access toilets in the Magpie Block. Adults can access toilets next to the Administration. Food and drink will be available to purchase from the canteen. If your child is K – 3, you will need to attend the event to assist with supervision. Further information can be found through the P & C Facebook page. I will be wearing a yellow vest and look forward to seeing you there!
This dual ceremony was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our new Karrakin Block and farewell, our principal, Mrs Kinninment who has worked with the Department of Education for 42 years.
Our Year 6 student leaders managed the technical elements and spoke beautifully, we welcomed Alton Wally to share his stories of the Karrakin. A new undercover area, with art, fabulous flooring, and cooling is not easy to gain; we are grateful for Dr Jags and Mrs Kinninment’s commitment and dedication towards this project.
Mrs Kinninment’s farewell was celebrated with music, gifts, photos, and speeches from the many who know her well. It was a true testament to her achievements over the years and her leadership impact at Burrendah PS. Thank you to the school community who was able to attend this monumental event.
