Leadership Report

Dear Newlands Primary School Community,

I am pleased to share the latest news and updates from our school. Our accomplishments and endeavours reflect the dedication of our staff, families, and students. A special commendation goes out to Margaret, as well as all the staff, students and families, for their exceptional contributions to the recent art show on Friday, October 13th.

On Friday 3rd December, we are transforming our school assembly into a celebration of El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Step into Mexico at NPS and join in the singing and dancing to commemorate this day from 2.30pm. We have also had some incredibly creative parents working on a deadly detailed and impressive alter that will be open for viewing between 3pm - 4pm on this day in the school library - bring your families, friends and neighbours along! We will be inviting students to come to school in a spooky costume on this day for a combined Halloween/Día de los Muertos dress-up.

SunSmart Policy:

As we transition into the warmer months, we ask families, students and staff to ensure that they maintain a SunSmart approach throughout Term 4. Our school SunSmart policy, in line with the Department of Education policy, requires students and staff to wear hats that cover the face, neck, and ears. Baseball caps are not suitable as do not provide sufficient protection from the sun.

School Closure on Monday 6th of November:

Please note that the whole school will be closed on Monday the 6th of November Melbourne Cup Long Weekend) as we transfer our power to the new metres on Elizabeth St. School will resume normal operations on Wednesday. This closure will include our OSHC program.

Term 4 Swimming Program:

With the Term 4 Swimming Program fast approaching, we would like to provide a brief summary of how the cost will be broken down:

  • The cost of instruction is covered by the school.
  • Parent fees support transportation and pool hire.
  • The school receives a modest subsidy to assist with the Grade 6 program, however, as is common practice amongst government schools, we use this to subsidise the whole school swimming program.

Building Updates

Landscaping around the learning worlds has begun, and our big-ticket item, the new gym, is making steady progress.

Transitions for 2024

As we look forward to 2024, we ask families who may be planning to transition elsewhere for 2024, please inform us promptly to assist with preparations for the upcoming year.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

'Through Relationships, We Build Success."

Warm regards,

Ross Dudgeon.
