Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

With the coming of Week 7, the Junior School summer sport hiatus quickly approaches. With only two rounds of summer sport remaining for the term, there are still many opportunities for the boys to develop, grow and build on their solid start to the season. Last weekend there were many pleasing results, with a vast number of wins across all the codes. Let’s work to keep this momentum going into this weekend - keep training hard, listen to your coaches and support each other well.

Outstanding Performances

As many of you are aware, earlier this term we had a number of boys attending the various State Cup competitions in Touch Football and Oztag. This saw many boys travelling to different parts of the state to compete. What many of you may be unaware of is that after these competitions have concluded, the winners of each zone competition come together to decide who will be the official state champions. Isaiah A of 5 Gold participated in this final, representing the Sharks Touch Football team. After a weekend of strong competition, Isaiah and his team were victorious and crowned the 12 Years State Champions. I know the community will join me in congratulating Isaiah on an outstanding performance.

On Monday, a number of boys were selected to represent the College at the IPSHA Touch Football Trials. These trials are traditionally very strong with large numbers from many schools attending. This year IPSHA changed their format, with only a team of 12 students selected. This added an additional layer to the challenge of the trials. A huge congratulations to Maroun Abraham, Atticus Haddad, Miller Fernandez and Isaiah Ayoub on their selection into the IPSHA Touch Team.

Supporters’ Day

A reminder to all Junior School boys and families that our Supporters’ Duty will be on Saturday 28 March, supporting the Opens Football and Rugby in the Black and Green Shield. This is a traditional competition between us and Trinity Grammar School. We have a tradition of winning the shield and I know all our senior teams appreciate the additional support the Junior School provides.

Year 5 students are to arrive at 8:45 AM to watch the Second XI Football at 9:00 AM and the First XI Football at 10:15 AM against Trinity Grammar School. Students will be dismissed at approximately 12 noon.

Year 6 students are to arrive at Breen Oval by 2:00 PM to support the Second XV Rugby team followed by the First XV Rugby team at 3:15 PM against Trinity Grammar School. Students will be dismissed at approximately 5:00 PM.

This is a compulsory day for all boys. If there is any reason that your son is unable to attend the Junior School Supporters’ Day, he will need to select an alternate Supporters’ Day to attend. These dates can be found in the original note sent out to families.

The purpose of the day is to support our SPC teams playing at the College. While there will be a barbeque available hosted by our P&F Committee on the day, boys will not be given the option to attend the barbeque during their supporters’ time. Those wishing to buy food from the barbeque are encouraged to stay after the scheduled football if in Year 5 or arrive early if in Year 6.

I look forward to another exciting Supporters’ Day. Blue, Black, and Gold, forever.
