INCLUSIVE EDUCATION CENTRE NEWS

Learning Fun!
It has been a busy and creative term for our students.
In PDHPE, students have been learning about what makes a good friend, how to stay safe online, and what to do if they need help.
In Geography, students have been exploring the unit 'People are Connected to Places,' where they have been learning about continents, oceans and Australia using maps. They have also been developing their understanding of Aboriginal Country and Torres Strait Islander Places, and the diversity of communities across Australia.
In Science, students have been focusing on laboratory safety, learning about scientific equipment and their uses, and exploring the role of a scientist.
In Creative Arts, students have been producing clay works depicting everyday items in a pop art style, showcasing both creativity and attention to detail.
A highlight of the term was the recent show, where students were extremely proud of their achievements. We are also seeing this pride continue as students contribute to a fantastic 'brag wall' celebrating their successes.
Biscuit the Axolotl
Biscuit is our MC2 classroom pet who has expanded and enhanced education within the classroom. Students have been given research tasks to establish the best living conditions, nutrition, liveability and water conditions to allow Biscuit to live his best life.
New Addition to the IEC
A big shout out to Bunnings Inverell and Ray White Real Estate Inverell who were very generous in their donations of swing seats for our students. We were very lucky to have a past student assemble and deliver one of the swings. These swing seats will provide valuable sensory benefits to our students with autism, particularly in enhancing regulation, focus, emotional wellbeing and supporting movement processing by providing controlled vestibular input through gentle back-and-forth or circular motions which will:
• Aid in self-regulation
• Reduce feelings of anxiety and overwhelm
• Improve body awareness
• Help organise sensory input
Once again, thank you for your thoughtful contribution, which will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
