Languages - Indonesian

Selamat datang lagi! Welcome back!

Kelas Tujuh (Year 7) have started this year with a unit called “Introduction to Language” where they have been learning a variety of greetings, words used commonly in the classroom, and numbers.

Students have been excited to reflect on their language learning process and share the differences between the languages they learnt in primary school and Indonesian. They have demonstrated incredible curiosity and self-reflection as they begin their language learning journey in secondary school. Walking through B-Block we will often hear a chorus of “Selamat siang, Bu! Apa kabar?”

Kelas Delapan (Year 8) have been building upon last year's language by learning about family. They have learnt to describe their family’s ages, what hobbies they like to do, revise conjunctions and have even learnt to describe their personality – they love to talk about their cheeky siblings!

We ask all students to ensure they have a Quizlet account, as it allows them to practice language skills at home as well as acting like vocabulary lists for all the new language we introduce in classes.

We are looking forward to introducing our students to our new Indonesian Language Learning Assistant (ILLA) for this year! Rania Allbright is a Melbourne University student from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. She is a food scientist and her family creates essential oils. She is passionate about Indonesian culture particularly food, dance and movies; and is excited to share her love of Indonesia and Indonesian language with Berwick College students.

Terima kasih, (thank you)
