On Friday 20 March, students and staff came together to celebrate Harmony Day in the B Block precinct, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere across the school.
Students embraced the opportunity to wear casual clothing or cultural attire, with many choosing to represent their backgrounds or show support through house colours. It was fantastic to see such strong participation and school spirit on display.
The day was filled with energy and activity. The BBQ was a huge hit, along with the Satay celebrating our Indonesian connection, which proved extremely popular. Fairy floss and cold drinks were also in high demand, adding to the festive feel of the day.
A highlight of the event was the live African drumming, which brought incredible energy to the space and drew a large crowd of students who joined in and enjoyed the performance. It was a great example of how music can bring people together and celebrate culture in a meaningful way.

Most importantly, the day reinforced the message of Harmony Day, that everyone belongs! It was a chance for students to connect, celebrate diversity, and contribute to a positive school culture.
Funds raised from the day will be reinvested back into the school through student voice and leadership initiatives, ensuring that students continue to have a strong say in shaping their school experience. A big thank you to all students and staff who contributed to making the day such a success.
On Monday 23 March, our Sport Captain, Year 12 student Muaaz, organised and ran a fantastic Staff vs Student soccer match as part of the continued Harmony Day celebrations.
The event drew a great crowd, with plenty of students coming down to watch and support. The atmosphere was lively from the start, with both teams showing plenty of energy, skill and competitiveness.
The teachers put up a strong fight and certainly didn’t go down without a battle. However, there were a few contentious moments throughout the game, most notably a penalty shout that, unfortunately for staff, was not awarded… largely due to the absence of an official referee!
Despite the best efforts of the staff team, the students proved too strong on the day, securing a well-earned 4–2 victory. The match was a great example of student leadership in action, with Muaaz doing a great job organising the event and bringing the school community together in a fun and engaging way.
A big thank you to all staff who participated, and to the many students who played and came along to support. While the students were lucky to get the win this time, teachers will definitely fix this up next time.
Last Wednesday, our student leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference, joining students from a range of schools for a day focused on developing their leadership skills.
The conference provided practical and engaging sessions centred around what it means to be an effective leader within a school community. Students explored key ideas such as leading by example, working as a team, taking initiative, and making a positive impact on others.
A strong focus of the day was on student voice and action encouraging leaders to not just hold a title, but to actively contribute to improving their school environment. Students were challenged to think about how they can support their peers, run meaningful events, and build a positive culture within the school.
Our students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating enthusiasm, maturity and a willingness to engage with the day. Hopefully we will all see the benefits of this as our leaders work diligently in providing voice to the college community. Soon we will be beginning preparations for student congress where students from all over the college will be provided with an avenue to select ideas for our leaders to use the skills and knowledge from GRIP to champion what the community wants and needs.
We look forward to seeing these ideas come to life throughout the year.
