Some subject highlights from this term
Year 8 Health
This term in Year 8 Health students have been focusing on the topic of drugs and alcohol. Their maturity in approaching this subject has been outstanding, and it has been very encouraging to see the respectful and thoughtful way they have engaged with the content. Students have participated actively in discussions, asked insightful questions, and demonstrated a strong understanding of the importance of making safe and informed choices.
Golf excursion
This term, Miss Lloyd, Mr Bowen and Mr Coe’s Year 12 PE classes attended a golf excursion as part of their biomechanics unit for Unit 3 & 4 PE. The experience supported both their practical and theoretical learning by allowing students to apply key concepts in a real-world setting. By observing and refining their golf swings, students developed a better understanding of how body positioning, movement patterns and timing contribute to effective performance. This hands-on experience reinforced the theory covered in class and helped bring biomechanical principles to life. Overall, the excursion enhanced students’ skills, while also strengthening their ability to analyse movement and reflect on their performance.
Year 10 Outdoor Education
This term, Year 10 Outdoor Education students have been actively involved in bike rides, engaging in valuable practical experiences. These sessions have allowed students to develop their riding skills, build confidence, and apply their knowledge in real-world environments.
Mock Trial – Year 12 Outdoor & Environmental Studies
This term Year 12 Outdoor Education students participated in a mock trial with Mr Boland and Ms McGregor which successfully engaged all students in the learning process about the Use of Outdoor Environments. The activity provided a valuable opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in a practical and interactive way. It was amazing to see the enthusiasm of all students involved, well done!
Outdoor education camps and excursions
YEAR 12 CONSERVATION CAMP
Our Year 12 Conservation Camp was a memorable experience filled with fun, learning, and teamwork. Andre brought energy and excitement as he taught us Mauritius dancing, getting everyone involved and creating plenty of laughs. Surfing was a highlight of the trip, with almost every student managing to stand up on the board - a great achievement for many beginners. Evenings were just as special, with stunning beach sunsets enjoyed while spending quality time with friends. There were also some unexpected moments, including when Ms Sommers got a fright by a huge wombat! Students made a positive impact on the environment by heading out to remove invasive sea spurge, contributing to the protection of the local ecosystem. Overall, the camp was a fantastic mix of adventure, connection, and conservation.
YEAR 11 SURF CAMP
Our Year 11 Surf Camp was a fantastic experience packed with fun, learning, and memorable moments. Students developed important surf rescue techniques while taking part in engaging surfing lessons, building both their skills and confidence in the water. On land, there was plenty of excitement with a competitive four-square tournament, relaxing beach walks, and a lively dance party that brought everyone together. A definite highlight of the trip was watching Ms McGregor, Ms Lloyd, and Molly showcase their creativity by building impressive sandcastles on the beach. Overall, the camp was an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved.
YEAR 9 MT CANNIBAL BUSHWALK
On Friday 27 of February, the Year 9 Outdoor Education students embarked on an exciting excursion to my Cannibal Fauna and Flora Reserve. This outing provided a fantastic opportunity for students to put into practice the mapping and orientation skills they have been learning in class with Mr Buckland. As they navigated through the reserve, students were able to apply techniques such as reading topographic maps, using compasses, and identifying landmarks to orient themselves in the natural environment. Throughout the walk, all students displayed exemplary behaviour, demonstrating respect for the environment and consideration for one another. They actively engaged in meaningful discussions, sharing observations about the local ecosystem and reflecting on the techniques they were applying. The diversity of the flora and fauna within the reserve sparked curiosity and prompted many thoughtful questions, allowing the students to deepen their understanding of the natural world around them. Once we got to the top the students got to look out at the amazing view. Overall, the excursion to the Cannibal Fauna and Flora Reserve was a highly successful and enriching experience. It not only reinforced the students’ practical skills in mapping and orientation but also fostered a greater appreciation for the natural environment and the importance of conservation.
YEAR 10 SURFING DAY
On Tuesday 3 March Ms Sommers and Mr Buckland's year 10 classes travelled down to Phillip Island to participate in surf lessons. This was a great opportunity for those students to get the real outdoor education learning experience that develops practical skills, personal responsibility and understanding the coastal environment. During the surf lesson students learnt basic water safety, learnt fundamental surfing techniques and built confidence in the dynamic natural environment. Whilst one group was surfing the other group was on the beach engaging in teamwork activities.
