Year 12

The year is well and truly in full swing, and our Year 12 students have been busy settling into the first term of their final year. There has been a strong sense of focus and determination as students begin to navigate the important milestones that come with Year 12.

Study planning is now in full motion, with SACs already underway. Students have been making excellent use of their study periods to prepare for the upcoming hurdle tasks and assessments, demonstrating a growing sense of independence and responsibility in managing their learning.

Our mentor program is also up and running, playing a key role in supporting students through this demanding year. Mentors and students have been working closely together to develop effective study schedules, share valuable study strategies, and ensure that every student feels supported when facing challenges. This consistent guidance continues to be a vital part of each student’s success.

This week has been particularly exciting with the arrival of the much-anticipated Year 12 banner. A highlight for many, the banner signing is a special tradition that brings the cohort together. Students have collectively voted on and agreed upon the 2026 theme: “Show up, work hard and achieve great things!” This theme reflects a shared commitment to learning, perseverance and striving towards individual goals. It captures the mindset of a cohort determined to make the most of their final year.

Students excitedly gathered to write their names on the banner, creating a memorable moment as they left their lasting impression on Berwick College. This tradition is a meaningful way for the cohort to celebrate their final year together, and the banner will hang proudly in our Senior School space throughout 2026 as a symbol of their unity and commitment.

We were also fortunate to welcome past Berwick College alumni who returned to speak with our current Year 12 cohort, delivering an insightful session on their experiences during their final year of school. They shared valuable advice on effective study habits, managing stress and navigating the challenges of Year 12.

Our students were highly engaged and respectful throughout the session with many taking the opportunity to stay afterwards to ask further questions. It was a rewarding experience for all, with students gaining practical insights and reassurance as they continue their own Year 12 journey.

We look forward to seeing what the Class of 2026 will achieve as the year continues.

A huge congratulations to Year 12 student Elijah Kata, pictured left with Mr Pentland), who was awarded the Outstanding Student Official Award. A versatile basketball talent, Elijah not only captained his school to a national

title and represented Australia in a competition in Singapore, but also demonstrated high level officiating skills, refereeing the gold medal match at the School Sport Australia Championships.

A huge congratulations to Elijah!

The year 12 team would like to wish all students and their families a restful and well-deserved break. We hope this time provides an opportunity to relax, recharge and reflect, ready to return for an exciting and productive Term 2.
