Principal Report

Our Vision: To develop people of purpose, character and capacity whose contributions strengthen communities.

The school has continued its focus on improving the Teaching and Learning program with a focus on assessment and reporting. The progress reports have been updated to reflect the school values and to provide parents and carers with more detailed information on student effort and behaviour in classrooms. The teachers have been focussing on improving their skill in determining each student's understanding and adjusting scaffolds to ensure that all student's understanding progresses.

They have achieved this through work in professional learning communities and observing each other in classrooms. So far, in Term 1, over 130 classroom observations have been completed at Berwick College. The teachers have shared their learning with each other, and we are looking forward to continuing this work in Term 2.

Sadly today, we joined with family and friends of Year 8 student, Troy Denver Salac, to farewell him. Our deepest sympathies are with his family and his friends. This has been a really sad time for our school community.

Last week I was honoured to attend the Victorian School Sports Award Ceremony where year 12 student, Elijah Kata received the Outstanding Student Official Award and staff members, Jannelle Graham - Coordinator of the Year Award - Secondary Region and Chris Pentland - Coach of the Year award.

It was wonderful to celebrate the depth of our sporting program and our high level of commitment to sportsmanship and to the local and State sporting community.

Student Leadership will be promoting the Berwick College beanies which are available to be purchased from the front office. The beanies are of excellent quality and will keep students warm in the coming cooler months. Please support their endeavours as all funds raised will contribute to student lead initiatives that will benefit every student.

I wish everyone a safe and happy term break and look forward to seeing everyone ready for learning in Term 2.
