LEARN TO SURF - YEAR 5 & YEAR 6

On Wednesday, the 7th of May, Year 5 participated in surfing lessons. We all met at the let’s go surfing bus stop, at Maroubra beach. The day began with learning how to catch a wave. Next, we began learning about how to stand on a board. Even though not all of us succeeded, we all had a lot of fun. Overall, the surfing lesson was a complete success.

On Thursday 8th May, Year 6 had Surfing and bodyboarding Lessons at Maroubra Beach. We all had so much fun and participated in fun activities with our friends. We had races in the water, running races on the sand and we even got to have a swim at the end. We thank the 'Let's Go Surfing' staff for teaching us bodyboarding and surfing. It was so much fun and we really enjoyed it.

PUBLIC SPEAKING & MICHAEL DALEY VISIT

This term, students in Year 5 and Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a public speaking competition. On Friday 9th May, Michael Daley visited the school and provided some handy tips to support students with their public speaking presentations. He discussed the importance of being prepared and being confident in their speech as well as practising the delivery of the speech, particularly using hand gestures, eye contact, body language and using different tones.

Students who are interested in competing in the competition will be presenting their speech on Wednesday 21st of May in front of their teachers and their peers.

There will be one student chosen from Year 5 and one chosen from Year 6 to represent St Aidan’s in the semi finals along with other students from local Catholic Schools. This will take place on Thursday 5th June. We wish the students the best of luck!

ANZAC DAY

Thank you to the members of the community who represented St Aidan’s at the Maroubra Sub-Branch RSL Dawn service. The choir led by Mrs Shaw sang beautifully and one of our school captains Dominic laid a wreath. We are very grateful and proud of the way you represented us.

Warm regards,
