Next week we commence our mid year assessments. Would you please remind your children to charge their laptops.
Wow, it's the end of Week 4. Our Level 5's have settled back into routine. We were so impressed with their participation and team comradery at the House Cross Country.
Key Dates:
Tuesday 20th District Cross Country
Wednesday 21st The Future of Work Incursion
Maths
This cycle, students in Level 5 have been consolidating their understanding of fractions by learning to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions, and accurately place them on number lines. This has helped them build confidence in comparing and reasoning with fractions in everyday contexts.
We have now shifted our focus to 3D shapes, exploring their features and how they are constructed. Students have enjoyed designing and building nets for familiar 3D objects such as cubes, prisms, and pyramids. Through hands-on construction and problem-solving, they’ve gained a deeper understanding of how two-dimensional shapes can come together to form three-dimensional models. Below are some photos of our creative mathematicians at work!
Literacy
In reading, students have continued to engage with our mentor text 'Landovel' by Emily Rodda. They have learnt to use comprehension strategies such as making connections and visualising to evaluate information and ideas to build literal and inferred meanings.
In writing, students finessed their narrative writing process by planning, drafting and publishing imaginative texts, choosing text structures, language features, images and sound appropriate to purpose and audience.
Inquiry
In week 4, our Level 5s focussed on resources. We learnt about the three types of resources, natural, human and capital resources. We then considered the need to conserve resources for the future.
This week we have focussed on our rights and responsibilities as a consumer. We have considered when goods can be returned through a task called 'Camp Chaos'.
Cooking
5A loved making and eating Pizza Focaccias in Mr. Marco's cooking class!
