School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) at SEPS
Building a Positive School Culture at SEPS
At Sandy East Primary School, we're all about creating a learning environment where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to thrive. To help us achieve this, we've embraced the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework which is an evidence-based approach that enhances students' social, emotional, behavioural, and academic outcomes.
Our Journey with SWPBS
Since starting our SWPBS journey last year, our dedicated staff have been working behind the scenes to reflect on the behaviours and qualities we value as a school community. We've focused on key values like respect, responsibility, and positive relationships, recognising the significant impact a consistent behaviour support framework can have on student learning and wellbeing.
The Whole School Behaviour Matrix
A central part of SWPBS at SEPS is our Whole School and Classroom Behaviour Matrices. These matrices clearly outline the expected behaviours in various school settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, assemblies and more. By providing clear expectations, the matrices help students understand what's required of them in different situations. To reinforce these expectations, students participate in weekly lessons focused on specific behaviours from the matrices. This explicit teaching ensures that students not only understand the importance of positive behaviour but also have regular opportunities to practise and demonstrate these behaviours in meaningful ways.
Celebrating Positive Behaviour
This week, we introduced a whole-school acknowledgement system designed to celebrate individual successes and promote school spirit and teamwork through our House system. At Sandy East, we're proud of our wonderful students, and recognising the positive behaviours they demonstrate is incredibly rewarding for both students and teachers.
In addition to our whole-school acknowledgement system, staff continuously provide positive verbal feedback to students that is specific, frequent, and meaningful throughout the day.
Stay Connected
We're excited about the journey ahead and will continue to share updates with our SEPS community as we progress with SWPBS. Your support and engagement are invaluable as we work together to foster a positive and supportive learning environment for all our students.
