Specialist Happenings

 Visual Art

This week in the Art room our some of our Foundation students have been creating some fabulous smiling sharks with inspiration from the story Smiley Shark by Ruth Galloway. This activity is designed to help them to follow teacher instructions and better understand the order in which something can be created to achieve the best outcome. They were also able to practice their cutting and construction skills. Of course, in my class there is always room for our own individual ideas and decoration. I was so impressed with their final pieces.

In other news our year 3 students are working on designs for whole class Acknowledgement of Country. These are going to be a wonderful addition to their classrooms and allow them to make personal acknowledgements to the land that they learn and play on.

I would also like to extend a special congratulations to Alan Mata from 3B who has been announced as a finalist in the Bayside Council's Ellen Jose Art Competition for 2025.

Amazing job Alan!!

Until next time, live creatively!

Mandarin

Last week in Mandarin, students from Prep to Year 6 took part in a special cultural and creative activity to celebrate Mother’s Day!

To honour this important occasion, students designed and created their own handmade Mother’s Day cards, adding a personal touch with beautiful drawings and decorations. As part of their Mandarin learning, they also wrote the phrase "母亲节快乐" (mǔ qīn jié kuài lè) – Happy Mother’s Day in Chinese characters.

It was heartwarming to see the effort, creativity, and care that went into each card. We hope all the mums and special carers enjoyed receiving these meaningful messages!

You are all amazing!

Physical Education

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope it was a restful break with plenty of time to recharge batteries and catch up with family and friends.

This term is a busy one!! We have our Cross-Country, Athletics Carnival and Interschool Sport for our Level 5/6 students - starting in week 3.

In P.E lessons, Levels F-2 will be honing their catching and throwing skills across a number of fun games and sports.

Levels 3-6 will be spending the first three weeks developing their AFL skills based on the modified AFL 9's format. For the rest of the term, they will practise different athletics skills leading into the Athletics Carnival.

As a reminder, details related to our Cross-Country next Wednesday are posted below. If any parents would still like to volunteer, please see Mrs Foster/Mr Davies, or let your classroom teacher know. The more helpers we have, the better!!

Also, included below is a copy of the T2 Interschool Sports timetable which shows where the 5/6 students are playing each week.

The Top 12 students from Levels 4-6 will qualify for the District competition.

Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and appropriate running footwear for the event. Let’s see some house pride out on the course!

📢 Parent Reminder: Please ensure you have given permission for this event via Compass. Additionally, to make this event a success, we need parent helpers to act as course marshals. If you are available to assist, please indicate this when completing the Compass event permission form.

A course map is below for those who may wish to get some extra practice over the holidays.

We look forward to a fantastic day of running, fun, and school spirit!
