Careers Immersion Day

On Thursday, the Year 10 cohort were joyed to participate in a reimagined Careers’ Immersion Day, which offered students a unique opportunity to explore diverse career pathways. Unlike previouCs years, students were given the opportunity to attend two sessions from 18 industry areas and join a small group to hear directly from an expert in their chosen field.

We were thrilled to have top professionals from various industries sharing their career journeys, insights, and expertise. The intimate group setting allowed students to engage in meaningful discussions, be curious and ask lots of questions, and participate in interactive activities designed to deepen their understanding of potential career paths.

Some of the key takeaways that students shared were:

“I found it interesting to learn about the industry expert’s career pathway and how it was completely different to the job they did straight out of school.  I also learnt that it may take me four or more jobs / careers before I find the one that’s right for me.”

“I found it fascinating to learn about the different allied health specialisations and the importance of patient care.”

“The importance of selecting prerequisite subjects in Senior to avoid having to do bridging programs that may delay my start at university.”

“The robotics / AI session was very fun as I was able to interact with the robodogs and use the remote controls.  I also learnt how robotics and AI will become part of everyday life.”

“It was good to learn that different industries cross over, and skills can be transferred to different career paths.”

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible presenters for generously giving your time to inspire and guide our students. Your willingness to share your experiences and knowledge was invaluable, and we greatly appreciate your contribution to shaping the future of our young learners.

Careers Expo

The San Damiano was abuzz with activity on Friday as the Whole College attended the Careers Expo.  Students had access to 25 different tertiary institutions, RTOs and private organisations, who were gifting them with information about courses they can pursue.

The air was electric with inquisitiveness as students asked engaging questions to deepen their understanding of the various future pathways.

Students were bubbling with enthusiasm as they started to gain clarity about career opportunities that await them after school and the need to continue their lifelong learning journey.

This year we included the junior school in this experience, empowering our Year 7, 8 and 9 students to open their minds to their future possibilities.  This was very successful, and we will continue to expose our students to career education each year.

“I have been struggling to identify what I want to do after school, but at the Careers Expo I was able to identify an industry I had never considered.” ~ Ruby ~

“I thought your event was excellent. The balance and freedom for students to engage with the various providers were wonderful. Additionally, all of the students I met were polite and well-mannered. I'm very impressed!” ~ Jamie, Binnacle Training ~
