R.E. News

Last week, Holy Trinity Parish Schools warmly welcomed families to a special and enriching Catholic Identity Sacramental Parent Evening. The engaging session was led by Fr Elio Capra, who expertly guided families whose children are preparing for a Sacrament in 2025.

Fr Elio emphasised the vital role parents play as their children's first and most influential teachers of faith. He encouraged them to authentically live and model their faith in everyday moments, highlighting its profound impact. His presentation was not only informative but also deeply engaging, enriched with humour and creative storytelling that explained each Sacrament. Feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing that the evening offered valuable insights and served as a powerful reminder of the significance of all the sacraments.

We eagerly anticipate celebrating these special sacraments with our students this year on the following dates:

  • Sacrament of Confirmation (Year 6): Saturday, 28th June at 1:00 pm

  • Sacrament of Eucharist (Year 4): Sunday, 10th August at 10:00 am (during Sunday Parish Mass)

  • Sacrament of Reconciliation (Year 3): Tuesday, 21st October at 9:15 am

New Pope

We are excited about the news of our new Pope, Cardinal Robert Prevost, who has taken the name Pope Leo XIV. This historic moment, which occurred on May 8th, marks a special occasion for the Church, as he becomes the first US-born and only the second American to lead the global Catholic community.

Pope Leo XIV brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to his new role. His deep connection to Rome through his studies, coupled with many years of dedicated ministry in Peru which is the same country where St Martin de Porres was born.

Pope Leo XIV also a multilingual canon lawyer and mathematician, demonstrating a sharp intellect and a capacity for diverse fields of knowledge. He is known to be a strong supporter of the entire Church walking together in faith. His commitment to serving communities on the margins reflects a deep care for those most in need.

The choice of his papal name, Leo XIV, resonates with a commitment to Catholic social justice. His past public statements strongly support migrants, urgent action on climate change, and the vital need to support survivors of abuse. This signals a continued focus on these crucial global issues under his leadership.

Let us pray for Pope Leo XIV, that the Holy Spirit will guide him as he leads us with wisdom, love, and a deep commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
