Peaceful Kids
At SMDP, we offer the Peaceful Kids program throughout the year.
Peaceful Kids is an evidence-based 8-week mindfulness and positive psychology program designed to help small groups of students develop valuable skills for managing stress and building emotional wellbeing. It is led by a trained facilitator, providing children with practical mindfulness strategies, effective coping techniques, and positive psychology exercises.
This program is run outside of the normal classroom wellbeing program. Following discussions with both the classroom teacher and families, it is a way at SMDP that we can offer further support for children:
To minimise the symptoms of anxiety and stress
To build emotional resilience
To empower children to self-manage their anxiety
To teach children Mindfulness exercises they can use for life
To minimise anxiety symptoms occurring in the future
To use a range of effective coping strategies
To self-calm
To develop emotional intelligence skills
To manage stress and prevent stress buildup
Supports children so they know they are not alone with suffering from anxiety
How it Works:
Small Group Setting: Each week, a group of 4 to 6 students will participate in a supportive and engaging environment.
Weekly Sessions: 1x 40-50min a week over an 8-week period during the school day.
Mindfulness and More: Students will learn a range of mindfulness meditations, effective coping strategies for challenging situations, and positive psychology exercises to boost their overall wellbeing.
Home Practice: A new meditation will be introduced each week, encouraging daily practice at home to reinforce learning and build lasting skills.
At SMDP we have two members of our Wellbeing Team that are trained to run Peaceful Kids.
Further information about Peaceful Kids can be found on the Peaceful Kids Website here.
We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher to discuss any wellbeing concerns you may have. Our wellbeing team can also be contacted for further information about the Peaceful Kids Program.

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured.
