Sustainability News
Another busy and fun-filled fortnight of Sustainability!
We found this very large moth on the wall of the BER building - can anyone tell us what it is called?
Our curious Preppies have been looking carefully for minibeasts in the garden with their magnifying glasses. We found out that butterflies have NEARLY everything they need to live happily at TPPS - except for something to drink! So our next project is to create some butterfly-friendly water stations near the flowers.
Grade 5 spent Friday carefully planting vegetables, herbs and flowers, and we are crossing our fingers for some more rain and cooler weather to help them grow. We planted cauliflower and spinach alongside onions, chives and sage, which are all great companion plants.
The Grade 6 students have been busy preparing a space for a new no-dig garden. They pulled out a BIG pile of runner grass!
We still have some bags of chook poo available if you need it for your garden. Every few weeks we fill up a new bag, so just ask if you would like some saved for you.
Grade 6 and Ms Conn also spent a session learning how to tie useful knots. We learned how to tie a reef knot, clove hitch knot, figure 8 knot, round turn and two half hitches knot, and a taut line knot. Those last two knots were pretty tricky! We discovered they are usually easy to untie, secure and sometimes adjustable.
Cinnamon, Henny Penny, Buttercup, Ginger, Pumpkin and Blossom have also been working hard in their coop! Here they are spreading the fresh straw around their floor for me and having a cool drink afterwards.
