Principal's Report

Senka King

Hello DPW Community,

It seems as though the cooler weather is making it’s way here. As some of the upcoming days are going to be quite cool in the morning and then warming up, please make sure you have your child’s name on their jacket or jumper. As the day warms up, children take off their jacket/jumper, and quite often leave it somewhere around the school. If their name is in it, it makes it easy to return when found.

Attendance

Going to school every day is an important part of your child’s education. Children and young people learn new things at school every day, connect with friends, have fun and develop good habits that help them to succeed. Attending and participating in school will help your child:

  • develop important skills and knowledge to help them learn
  • develop social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and team-work
  • establish friendships with peers which help develop self-esteem and a sense of belonging.

Top attendance tips for parents:

  • Schools want to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s school and asking for advice and support
  • Remember that every day counts
  • There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness
  • Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day
  • Open and prompt communication with your child’s school about all absences is a good idea
  • Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term
  • Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child’s attendance and wellbeing.

Schools want to work in partnership with parents to support student attendance and wellbeing.

Story Time

Story Time with Mrs. McLeod started yesterday. Story Time is for children not yet attending school. This is a great opportunity for parents to introduce their children to the school environment, enjoy listening to books being read, get to know other parents and children while having fun participating in different activities. Storytime is held on every Wednesday from 2:30-3:15pm. Please sign in at the office.

Curriculum Day – WEDNESDAY, 14TH OF MAY

Apologies to families who may have already made arrangements, but we have had to change the curriculum day to Wednesday the 14th of May to ensure that all our students will be able to participate in the District Cross Country. The date for the District Cross Country was changed at very short notice.

Kind Regards,

Deanne Scott
