F-2

This fortnight, the Foundation students created a liquid mix by using cordial and water to create icy poles. They used cups as moulds and the cordial was then frozen in the freezer. We discussed how when some liquids are in extreme cold, they freeze into a new state of matter. The 1/2 students did a science experiment using volcano moulds. They made a mix and caused a chemical reaction that looked like foamy, gassy lava! The students also tested different liquids to see what ones had a chemical reaction. They tested Coca Cola, balsamic vinegar and lemon.

Year 3-6

This fortnight, the 3-6 students have embarked on their Chemistry journey. The 5/6 students are planning, creating and organising a chemical reaction for an engineered volcano that will erupt. They are working in a small group and creating their plan and materials on the CANVA APP. Next week, they will begin their volcano creations using their best engineering skills. The 3-6 students caused a chemical reaction using volcano moulds, dish soap, food dye, vinegar and baking soda.

FOUNDATION:

In our Foundation sessions, we have been exploring primary colours and the ways to create secondary colours. Foundation students created primary and secondary coloured ladybugs. They look super cute! Some are on display in the prep window :) Students are developing their knowledge of primary and secondary colours. We have also been focusing on working on fine motor skills, such as cutting and pasting.

GRADE 1/2:

In grade 1/2, the students have been busy making a mixed media collage of a sunflower. They have been using their fine motor skills to scrunch and glue small pieces of tissue paper onto their flowers. The Grade 1/2 students have started to create a paper flower, made out of a paper plate and sheets of paper. We will be painting and assembling these next week.

GRADE 3/4:

In grade 3/4, we are beginning to explore landscape art. Landscape art involves drawing or painting outdoor scenes—like mountains, trees, oceans, or cityscapes. For kids, it’s a fun and imaginative way to explore the world around them. We are focusing on perspective, colour and line.

GRADE 5/6:

In grade 5/6, the students are creating a background scene for their apple. Some students have chosen to design backgrounds such as farms, trees, boxes or supermarkets. They are working so hard on these and I cant wait to show them to you once they are finished!

Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.

During PE, students will:

  • focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
  • play games to reinforce the skills
  • foster social skills
  • celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.

Each session will have a:

  • warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
  • skill development activity
  • fun game - teamwork and cooperation.

We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.
