Dear Families
Welcome to week 4 of term 2! We are moving forward to a very busy term ahead. We would like to thank you all for your continuous support and cooperation that helped the term to be successful so far.
MOTHER'S AND OTHER'S DAY
A big thank you to all the families who were able to attend our Mother's and Other's day stall and activities. It was lovely to have you come into our spaces and work with your children.
MAD ABOUT SCIENCE
The students participated in the Kitchen Chemistry science incursion and had lots of fun experimenting with different chemicals found in the kitchen. We used cabbage juice to change the colour of water, bicarb and vinegar, and used the bicarb and vinegar to make it explode! We also mixed bicarb, icing sugar and citric acid to make sherbert, which was a big hit for the students.

In Reading, students have been exploring and learning about the text type and text purpose. Our main focus for this term is 'Narratives'. Students have read and explored some fairy tales and dreamtime stories such as Tiddalik the Frog, Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood etc. to gain an understanding of the narrative structure and the elements of a story.
In Writing, students have been learning to write narratives/fiction stories. Students have been learning to use the narrative structure to present a complete writing piece of their stories. Students were able to choose their own characters and settings and were also able to create an interesting plot for their stories by writing about the complication/problem in the story and the resolution for the problems found by the characters.
Systematic Synthetic Phonics
Students have learnt the digraph sounds ar, or, aw, ir, ur, er and they have been practising to apply their learnt phonic skills into their reading and writing.
In Maths, students have been exploring place value. They have learnt how to partition a two digit number, comparing numbers, making and counting collections using tens, identify 10 more and 10 less than a number. Students have participated in maths problem solving activities to use bundling to group collection of objects.
Our Inquiry focus for this term is ‘past and present’. Students have been learning to recognise what has changed and what has remained the same. Students have also been exploring their own family history and connections to the past.
To learn more about how things have changed or remained the same, students have created a questionnaire to interview their grandparents/parents/old relative.
Please support your child in their inquiry process by answering their questions. This will give you an opportunity to be a part of your child's learning.
Example questions:
What did you like to play with when you were a child?
How was school like?
How did you travel to school?
What kind of technology did you use?
How was families like? etc.
In SEL, Students have been learning about how to be respectful and show respect to themselves and others. Students have engaged in conversations and activities to make safe and better choices for themselves which will help build their ability to make responsible decisions and choose different ways of solving problems and creating a positive environment for themselves and others.
