In the Science Room

Students have enjoyed seeing the physics inspired science room decorations go up this term.

Level 5/6

Level 56 students dove into the interesting world of Makey-Makey's this week. Students used the Makey-Makeys to produce playdough piano's and etch-a-sketch controllers. This provides students with an understanding of how circuits can perform digital functions and links to their prior knowledge of how to make scratch games.

Level 3/4

Level 34 students have been exploring thrust and air resistance. Students had fun launching air rockets last week and then improving the aerodynamics of their rockets this week. Students also added fins this week to help the rockets to fly straight through the air when launched.

Level 2

Students have been exploring the forces with a special focus on push and pull forces. Students investigated the school grounds to find ways in which they experience these forces every day during play time. Students will apply their research to their Rube Goldberg machines later in the term.

Level 1

Students have found creative ways to explore the phrase 'light is needed to see".  Students used a shadow box and random animal figures to see if they could tell which animal was in the box when there was no light. After trying to see in the dark and having a guess, the lid was removed to allow light in, to which students could positively identify the animal.

Prep

Students observed their peers moving around the playground. They identified the types of movements their partner made using verbs such as jumping, stretching, bending, and climbing. Prep students also began making observations on toys and the ways they slide, spin, roll, bounce and glide.

Garden Club

This week in garden club we weeded the furthest bed from the Boorai and planted blue peas and borlotti beans. We also harvested some of our beetroots. Students were amazed and delighted with the giant beetroot we unearthed (picture 3) as it was twice the size of all the rest!

Students also planted blue peas which will return some much needed nitrogen into the soil and provide us with some flowers for the bees and delicious snacks eventually.

Until next time, remember to act like a proton and stay positive!
