Issue No 32 - 6 November 2024

Term 4 - Week 5

Principal’s Report

FIRE Carriers

Last Friday our grade 5 students were commissioned as our 2025 FIRE Carriers workshop. We congratulate our newly commissioned FIRE carriers and acknowledge the grade 6 students for their work over the last 12 months.  During this assembly, the school choir was able to perform the items from their Arts on Show opportunity last term.  It was an excellent chance for the choir to perform for the whole school community.

Melbourne Cup Day Dress Up

Yesterday our students and staff enjoyed an opportunity to dress up for the ‘race that stops the nation’, the Melbourne Cup.  Whether students dressed as jockeys, wore a fascinator or casual clothes, they all had a great time.

Parents and Friends Committee

Last night a group of bubbly and friendly parents from our community met to discuss our upcoming St Kilian’s School Christmas Party (see more information below).  I am exceptional proud of their enthusiasm for our community and the effort they have put into this upcoming event.

The P&F are keen for some support of the Christmas Party, we are looking for:

  • a face painter
  • parent volunteers for leading some of the art and craft stations
  • parent volunteers to assist with the coffee machine, BBQ, and baked goods stall
  • Grade 5/6 students who are keen to assist as roaming elves and stall helpers

If you are interested in helping out, could you please email:

office@skbendigo.catholic.edu.au

30 minutes of your time would be all that would be required.

Remembrance Day

On Monday we celebrate one of the most important days of the year; that is ‘Remembrance Day’. Each year on this day Australians observe one minutes’ silence at 11:00 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. During our Monday morning assembly, we will partipcate in a service to acknowledge this significant event and our grade 6 students will represent our school at the Bendigo ceremony at the Soldiers Memorial Institute.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Next Wednesday, 13th November some of our grade 2 students are participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.  This culminates multiple sessions with our Parish Sacramental Team preparing them for this celebration.  I acknowledge the students for their commitment to the program as well as the Parish Sacramental Team for their planning and preparation for our community.

Arrival, Departure and Child Safety

As parents and carers, it’s our responsibility to reduce the risk and make sure the children are safe during drop off and pick up times. We know our students learn more about road safety from watching their older peers and adults model the safest behaviours.

All children deserve to get to and from school safely.

Getting children to school safely is everyone’s job

Think before you park, drive, drop off and pick up.

Be courteous and aware.

Follow signs, road rules and parking signs. They are there to keep our children safe.

Be extra careful and patient around schools.

Use the school crossing. It is the safest place for children to cross the road.

Slow down and be alert! Children can be unpredictable.

Remain careful, especially during the busy morning and afternoon school times.

Drop off and Pick up

Parents, please ensure that your children do not arrive at school before 8:30am and that you pick them up between 3:30pm and 3:50pm. If this is difficult, the YMCA provides a wonderful ‘Before and After School Care Program’ where the children are supervised, fed and provided with fun activities.

Information can be obtained from the school website or a form can be picked up from the office.

Hours of the program are below:

Before school care program: 7am - 9am

After school care program: 3:30pm - 6pm

Transition 2025 Preps

The 2025 Preps will be participating in transition sessions on Tuesday 19th November and Tuesday 26th  November.  During these sessions we invite parents and carers to a coffee and chat session in the school library and would love the assistance of current families to make them feel welcome.  If you are able to assist during these times 9:15am – 10:00am and/or 10:15am – 11:00am please email principal@skbendigo.catholic.edu.au This is a great opportunity for new parents to ask questions of current families and get to know others.

God Bless
