Tutor News

Mr Gardiner & Ms Menidis

Term 4 has seen the Tutor Enrichment Program continue, empowering students by building on their skills across a range of year levels. Our team of dedicated teachers and tutors have been running small group pull-out sessions, and also in-class support integrated with regular lessons.

Year 4 Students have been focusing on numeracy, comparing fractions, converting between improper and mixed fractions, and locating them on number lines. They have taken these concepts further by adding and subtracting fractions, with both the same and different denominators, using number lines. They have also been working on developing key strategies and improving efficiencies when solving multiplication problems.

During our tutor group sessions, we have been:

  • Identifying eqivalent fractions by using and making various manipulatives suchas fraction strips, fraction walls and number lines.  We are encouraged to express our reasoning and record our thinking processes.
  • Making connections between fractions, decimals and money using Australian currency as a model. Eg 5/4 od a dollar is $1.25

Students have shown great enthusiasm and progress, and we look forward to seeing their continual growth as they progress throughout the remainder of the term.
