Professional Learning – Writing
At the beginning of Term 4, all Stage 3 teachers gathered with the English Faculty to hear from Elena Lanzili, Leader of Teaching and Learning at Rostrevor College, Adelaide. Elena guided staff through professional learning around ‘The Writing Revolution’ which is an evidence-based and proven instructional methodology. The methodology rests on explicit, carefully sequenced instruction, building from sentences to compositions. Feedback on the day from Stage 3 staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with teachers stating:
‘They are engaging strategies that will help students become better writers.’
‘It is a structured approach that helps students build stronger sentences and paragraphs, improving their overall writing skills.’
‘The Writing Revolution caters for a range of learners in the classroom.’
In the first few weeks of this term, teachers have been embedding strategies from 'The Writing Revolution' into their English programs in order to support student outcomes in writing. It has been exciting to see and hear students proudly sharing their work. We look forward to continuing our work with Elena, a fellow EREA educator.
