Foundation Orientation

Three-Year-Olds

We have had such a calm and productive week! As the year has progressed, it has been wonderful to see children extend their friendship circles, as well as move away from fixed and familiar play to engage in new experiences. Our little ice cream parlour corner has been a great way for children to explore the ‘hot topic’ of birthdays; deep learning and problem solving has been occurring at the puzzle table with children returning again and again to this area; and transportation play has been popular outdoors with children transporting, rocks, sand and water using containers and other tools.

Four-Year-Olds

Budja - We have done a lot of gardening and cooking this week. We tasted our crunchy snow peas that we planted last term, and we harvested some silver beet and made spinach and ricotta pastry parcels.

Marram - This week, we have enjoyed a springtime scavenger hunt in the yard. The children also had fun doing science experiments with Christina while learning the names of colours in Mandarin.

Gawarn - This week, we have been busy exploring space travel and things that glow-in-the-dark in our UV lit rocket ship room. Outdoors, some of the group's enthusiastic engineers built pirate ships from Duplo, which were set sail as they experimented with the science of sinking and floating. Book making continues to be an area of intense interest. Children have begun writing and illustrating their own elaborate stories with some wonderful educator scaffolding!
