Year 3 & 4

Around our level

This term, the 3/4 students have been studying the unique writing of Roald Dahl, whose stories immerse us in a world of imagination and silly fun! Roald Dahl’s books are filled with quirky characters and unexpected twists and turns. We have used his work to inspire our own writing and made connections with the text… For example, the character of Miss Honey from Matilda, who strikes an uncanny resemblance to our very own Mrs Pagliaro! Or Mr Twit and his filthy, nightmarish, unwashed beard… We’re looking at you, Mr Smith! Then there’s the Roly Poly Bird, whose bright colours remind us of Mrs Macrae and her various vibrant adornments. At the end of the day, I guess we’re just grateful that we have Mr Darby as our principal instead of the dreaded Ms Trunchbull!

Here are some of our opinions of Dahl’s magical books:

My favourite book from Roald Dahl is The Twits because it's funny. My favourite part is when the three little  boys sat on the tree with Hugtight glue and to get off they had to take off their pants before Mr Twit got them!

-Josephine F

I like Roald Dahl’s books because they are so mind changing. It's like you're in a different world!!! He is truly going to be remembered for centuries and centuries. My favourite book would be all of them because they are all too good!

-Victoria C

My favourite book is The BFG. I like it when they go to the queen and they give them the drink that is really fizzy. They all start farting and the queen makes the table cloth flap out and the doggies start hovering and drifting away. I like Roald Dahl because he made funny and sometimes really beautiful books

-Xavier R

I like Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They are both really good books and movies. I just like reading them as a class, and watching the movie at home. Pretty much all or most bits are my favourite. I like Roald Dahl's books in general. I think they are pretty entertaining.

-Levi

I like Fantastic Mr. Fox because it is very exciting, interesting and it leaves you on a cliffhanger on every page!

-Rose

Matilda is my definite favourite because of how smart she is and how much she loves reading books. They made a movie based on the book for a reason!!

-Poppy C

My favorite book is George's Marvelous Medicine because it is so creative and a very interesting story. I also love it because I have read it so many times and I find some more information I didn't notice last time. I am always so intrigued to find out what is going to happen next. I love reading this book so much because it is a real page turner!

-Toby M

My favourite is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because when I was 3 I saw it for the first time. I loved it and I've always dreamed of writing a book, and yesterday I did! (A LATE TRAIN!)

-Flynn M

I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because I love all the cool lolly inventions and especially the everlasting gobstopper!!!

-Maddison H
