Around Our Level
In Literacy, we have been learning about the short vowel sounds in CVC words. We have been enjoying reading, sharing and exploring books by author/illustrator, Eric Carle. In Prep, we have read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, 'The Bad-tempered Ladybird', '10 Little Ducks', and this week, ‘Hello Red Fox’. We have undertaken craft activities, responded to texts, made text connections to other texts and to real life experiences.
In Writing, we have been focussing on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our sentences and identifying common and proper nouns.
In Maths, we have been learning about subtraction using a variety of strategies to solve equations, such as using counters, unifix, fingers, number lines and automatic recall. We have been learning about ‘double facts’ and the relationship between subtraction and addition. The Preps have loved playing a number of partner/dice games to further practise and consolidate their subtraction skills and have recorded these in their maths books. This week we have introduced 2D and 3D shapes and finding real life objects that are cubes, cones, spheres and cylinders in our classroom and surrounds.
Our Prep students have been eager to use their Chromebooks and are learning to log on independently, to scroll, to click and drag and become familiar with a number of Literacy and Numeracy programs to support classroom learning. Students have joined our Prep 2024 Google Classroom with weekly set tasks and games.
In Wellbeing, we have been learning about ‘tricky situations’ and how to deal with these, and when and who to ask for help. Our Preps have completed the URSTRONG Friendology Program and are now officially trained ‘Friendship Ninjas’. Having common terminology across the school and a greater understanding and empathy for others.
In History, we have been learning about photographs and artefacts. Students will be undertaking individual presentations as part of their ‘Me in a Bag’ task. More information to follow this week.
Whilst it was disappointing not to run last Friday, our Preps are very excited for Friday 8th of November and the Colour Run. Congratulations to our star Prep students for their individual fundraising efforts and for raising funds for the school. Special prizes have been handed out this week.
Tree Planting Day was on Thursday 24th of October. Our Prep students came down to the sanctuary and with the help and assistance of the Year 3 and 4 students, each planted a native species in our ‘Yarra Yarra Indigenous Garden’.
This week will be the final PMP session for 2024. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful parent helpers for ensuring this valuable program ran smoothly and for their efforts each week. We certainly have had a lot of fun. Our Prep students have absolutely loved PMP each Friday morning and have developed their skills (gross motor, hand-eye coordination, balance, throwing and catching, tracking and yoga).
Upcoming events include our Prep Alphabet Concert, Swimming Program and Stepping Up Program. It is certainly going to be a very busy Term 4.
Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below student's certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
