On Tuesday 22 October, Year 5 students had the opportunity to participate in a music workshop with Oded from Junkyard Beats and the Australian TV and Media Group filmed this presentation. The filming took place to show the work of the educational platform, Learning for Good, and will appear in an episode of a TV show called Helping Hands, which airs on Channel 9. More information will be provided about the airing of the episode when it becomes available.
Recount by Clara & Layla:
When we walked into the hall we were extremely excited, not only because it was going to be on TV but because of all the different things on the stage - paint buckets, plastic bottles, plastic bags and a bunch of other things that looked like trash. We were told that the paint buckets could be used as drums, the plastic bottles could be a xylophone if air was pumped into them and the plastic bags could be waved around to make interesting sounds.
The experience was great and we think everyone learnt something new. Oded helped us discover new ways to make music out of what others would call “junk” and we began to realise that so many things around us can be turned into a musical instrument. The experience was very fun, especially when we had the opportunity to make some music ourselves using these items. It was also a great reminder to recycle as many things as we can.
On Thursday 24 October, some Rabbitohs representatives presented to the students Kinder to Year 6 about how to build and maintain healthy relationships. Students developed awareness of respect, teamwork, inclusion and communication through exploring the significance of healthy relationships with peers and others in society.
On Friday 25 October, Year 2 students nominated their instrument preferences for Amadeus in 2025. The instrumental tutors and some students spent time introducing each of the instrument families - woodwind, brass and string. This was an exciting opportunity for Year 2 and we look forward to seeing them start to learn their instruments next year.
