Team Selection Process for Tournaments and Competitions

It is an exciting time for WHC with over 530 students in our Specialist Sports Program. However, this also creates complexities around team selection for tournaments and competitions. It is simply not possible for all student-athletes to be selected.

Please understand that although student-athletes are a part of the SSP, this does not guarantee automatic entry to any WHC interschool or representative team. Head coaches are responsible for team selection and any factors contribute to this process, including; skill, ability, team dynamics, effort, behaviour and attendance.

We know that non-selection can be difficult for parent-carers, but we thank you for your understanding and support of our program and all student-athletes, whilst we move in to a heavy phase of competition over the next three terms.

Netball

The netballers were welcomed back with a full battery of fitness testing in week 1, all stepping up to the challenge with some great results in speed, agility and strength. These results have been important in reflecting on relevance of our training programs and focus for groups as well as individuals. Well done all and a huge thank to Seth our S&C Athlete Development Coach for his work with the group.

On court our focus will be preparing for next Friday’s match play friendlies against Bendigo Senior Secondary College which will be a great hit out for the group in a relationship with BSSC we hope to reciprocate next year heading to Bendigo.

Our Year 7,8,9 SNP will head to Victorian Institute of Sport for a tour of Victoria’s elite HP Facility at Albert Park as well as a Performance for Nutrition presentation by one of their leading Sports Dietitians. This will be an opportunity for students to be exposed to the State’s elite sporting hub, see National and International athletes training and also awareness around the many roles and careers available in HP sport industry.

In education our junior group have been reviewing and resetting goals and our intermediate/senior group have been discussing carers in sport.

We would also like to congratulate and acknowledge the many players we have had that have won both League and Club Awards during the winter netball season as well as all participants. Well done everyone.

Looking forward to some exciting experience ahead.

The Netball Crew.
