Seasons for Growth: Supporting Resilience and Wellbeing with Jill Cannon

At Holy Cross this year, we offered the Seasons for Growth program, a valuable resource for children who have recently experienced loss, whether due to family separation or the passing of a loved one. This weekly program is facilitated by our highly experienced Wellbeing Support Officer, Jill Cannon, who brings a wealth of expertise in wellbeing, trauma-informed practice, and learning diversity.

Seasons for Growth is designed to help children understand and process their feelings, build coping skills, and regain self-confidence while learning about the grief process. The program is offered in small groups, ensuring a supportive environment where each child can feel heard and understood.

The sessions, which incorporate discussion, storytelling, drawing, role-play, and guided meditation, finished this week with a celebration at the program's completion.

The metaphor of the four seasons is used to reflect the stages of grief, helping children navigate their emotions in a meaningful way.

Our staff and Wellbeing team are committed to fostering the wellbeing of all our children, and the Seasons for Growth program is just one of the ways we support children through challenging times. We are grateful to Jill Cannon for her expertise and dedication in leading this vital program each week. Thanks Jill!

Cyber Safety Reminder

Each term, our students participate in engaging cyber safety lessons delivered by Inform and Empower. This term's lessons began on Monday, 21st October, offering another valuable opportunity to help children learn how to stay safe online. Please see last fortnight's newsletter for parent tip sheets.

Day For Daniel - Friday 25th October

Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. It’s a day for raising awareness about child safety, and we encourage parents, carers, and educators to have important conversations with children about personal safety.

Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Your contributions help fund the development of free safety resources and programs for parents, carers, and educators, as well as provide support for young victims of crime. Thank you for your support of this initiative today

Regular school attendance is very important for your child's learning and social development. Very good attendance is 95% and above.

Of course, sometimes children are sick and need to stay home to get well - and that's OK! But other than that, children need to be at school as much as possible to ensure the BEST opportunity for learning.
