Hello Kingswood Community,
We have had a wonderful start to Term 4, with the warmer spring weather bringing our garden to life.
On our way to the garden shed, students have been filled with awe and wonderment as they marvel at the furry peaches and observe the tiny fruit growing on our fruit trees. It has been a joy to witness their curiosity as we discuss how the trees are focusing their energy on growth, getting ready to produce fruit later in the season.
Our Year 6 students took on the challenge of netting our massive plum tree in the back garden. It wasn’t an easy task, but they demonstrated the Habit of Mind of "Persisting", as they worked through the difficulties, showing grit and determination to protect the tree’s fruit.
The Year 5 students have been instrumental in tidying up the overgrown pumpkin patch, which had turned into a bit of a jungle. Now that the area is cleared, we are dreaming big for its future. Our plan is to convert this space into a strawberry patch in 2025 and the Year 5 students are laying the groundwork for this exciting transformation.
Meanwhile, the Year 3 and 4 students have been essential in maintaining the garden. Their tasks have included fertilizing the spring onions and silverbeet, which we will use in our kitchen later this term, as well as weeding and turning over the garden beds. Their excitement and enthusiasm for every task, big or small, shows how much they are thriving in our team culture, where everyone’s contribution is valued and celebrated.
Our garden continues to be a space where students shine, learning not only about plants and gardening, but also about themselves. As they care for the garden, they are learning to care for their environment and each other.
As we enjoy the warmer weather, we look forward to more productive and exciting garden activities. Our community’s support and involvement have been vital and we appreciate everyone’s contributions, big and small, in helping our students and garden thrive.
A special shout out to the Watson family for their help with the hen’s over the holidays!
Enjoy the beautiful spring weather and happy gardening!
