Week 4, Term 4

Performing Arts

Prep

Students are continuing to explore dance in performing arts classes. This week they will explore timing in dance, exploring the use of fast and slow movements.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will have their first African Drumming workshop this week. Students will all participate on Thursday with the following times:

Hour 1 – 1A

Hour 2 – 2A

Hour 3 – 1/2C

Hour 4 – 2B

Hour 5 – 1B

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students are continuing with their focus on music in performing arts classes. This week they are dividing beats into groups of 4, using accents. Students will also begin to explore the feel of 3 beats in bar.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students are continuing to focus on music in their performing arts classes. This week they will explore loops and turnarounds/a series of chords using tuned instruments.

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be finishing off their Secret Name Painting by adding pattern details and use magiclay to mould the shapes of lines the letters. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to construct their outer space sculpture, rotating through stations to make a polystyrene earth using the decoupage technique, a rocket from recycled materials and a cardboard and foil moon. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will paint their papier-mâché ice-cream and cone, adding sauces, sprinkles and other toppings to complete their 3D project. 

 

Grade 5

Students will continue to sew using blanket stitch around the perimeter of their Buddy Bear, and then add stuff the insides before completing the stitching.  

 

Grade 6

Students will be continuing to work on their Graduation Portrait, painting the reverse side of their acetate paper and experimenting with gelli printing for the background.  

Physical Education

Prep PE

Students will again be learning and practicing the side-arm strike, with a particular focus on striking a ball with a racquet or bat. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.   

 

Prep Sensory

In this week’s Sensory Gym sessions, students will participate in several activities and exercises designed to improve their hand-eye coordination, balance and core strength.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to explore the side arm strike and will be able to practice this skill with a racquet, bat and their hand. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.  

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will turn their focus to the Sport of tennis. We will introduce and rehearse the key skills and shots required to play this game, including the forehand strike, volley and serve. Students will be recorded performing a trap and pass with a hockey stick for their learning snapshot, which will be uploaded to Showbie in the coming weeks.   

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will focus on the sport of tennis, introducing key skills such as the forehand and backhand strike, volley, and serve. They will practice these techniques through various drills and games. Additionally, students will record a hockey stick trap and pass for their learning snapshot, which will be uploaded to Showbie in the coming weeks.
