Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 4

📖 LITERACY

Students will be continuing their class novels and sharing their learning through a weekly Literature Circle. We will also be incorporating our critical literacy skills in analysing the structure of magazine articles in preparation to create their own.

The table below outlines the Language Conventions we will be looking at during our Literacy sessions.

🧮 MATHS

In Maths, Grade 6s will be investigating 24-hour time, elapsed time and being able to interpret a variety of timetables.

Grades 5s will be using a range of strategies (using materials, diagrams, arrays and formal algorithms) to solve worded problems involving the four operations. We will be reviewing the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division.

💡CBL - CURIOSITY

Students will be exploring the positive impact that ethical companies have on the planet. They will be doing this by researching media publications about their chosen company. Students will consider their personal values and interests to start planning their own product or service in response to the Challenge.

📗GRADE 6 MEMORY BOOK

A suggested timeline and high quality examples have been posted to your child's Showbie account under 'Memory Books'. They have been briefed on the expectations and have been encouraged to follow the suggested timeline where possible. We look forward to seeing their completed books in late Term 4.

The pages for Prep, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 should now be completed. Students should be working on their Grade 5 page and have this completed by Sunday 10th November.

👜 GRADE 5 BUDDY BAGS

Students should now have in their Buddy Bags a toy/game, an activity book, an alphabet book, a purchased toy and a letter to their buddy. The final task of creating a name plate will be completed at school, once we know the names of our buddies. We will meet our buddies on Wednesday the 20th November. If students have not completed any of the previous homework tasks, it is imperative for them to do so as soon as possible.

👒 HATS ON

As of September 1st, we would like to remind you that our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.

Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.
