We would like to remind you that ALL students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September, when UV levels are typically higher. Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.Â

Wow! There are a lot of things on the upcoming calendar for our Grade One and Two students. Please make sure you finalise payments and permissions on Sentral.Â

The Grade One and Two teachers are busily trying to finalise the details for our two camp experiences that take place this term. The Grade One 'Onderful Day' permission is now on Sentral. Please look out for a further notice coming home this week in regards to dietary and pick up notifications. We hope to have details and costs for the Grade Two Camp  out to families soon!

CURRICULUM
đ Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics
To support our work using the UFLI program students use their iPad's twice a week to manipulate letters and sounds on a blending board. We would appreciate iPads coming to school fully charged each day.

 Students will complete two sounds this week (4 lessons and an assessment).
Â
Grade One Students will continue to learn about r controlled vowels, focusing on er, ir and ur.
Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart words: other, another, mother and brother

đ Literature: reading responses and writingÂ
The mentor text is an information text 'The Sun' which will be supported by a webpage from NASA Science Space Place - 'Sun.'
Â
Students will be using both texts to learn facts about the sun, build vocabulary, continue to build their understanding of  the features of information texts and how to navigate a webpage to successfully gain information.

Students will begin to write an information text on the sun, using headings to support their organisation.

-Encourage retelling of your child's take home book. What were the main events? Can you place the events in order? What kind of text is this? Why has the author written this?

Students will continue to explore Time, with the Grade One students looking at the features of analogue clocks and reading simple times. The Grade Two students will also be reading times on digital and analogue clocks focusing on half past, quarter past and quarter to times.

đ CBL - Curiosity
Our Term Four Big Idea is Curiosity. Students have begun to look at space and the objects that are naturally found in space and objects that have been placed there by humans. Students will begin to make observations of the moon, and we will be encouraging students to make these observations at school and home.
