Principals Report

Dear Fellow Chasers,

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to take a moment to discuss the importance of school uniforms and the vital role they play in fostering a sense of unity and equity within our school community.

At Berwick Chase, we have a very pragmatic and balanced approach to school uniforms. We understand that cost can be a concern, which is why we ensure that our uniforms are affordable and accessible for all families. At the same time, we recognize the importance of allowing students to express some individuality, which is why we permit flexibility with items such as shoes, socks, and accessories like headbands. This approach strikes a healthy balance between maintaining a uniform appearance and allowing students to feel comfortable and unique.

However, in recent weeks, we have noticed an increasing number of students arriving at school in casual clothing, often claiming they are unable to find their uniform. This trend is concerning, as it not only goes against our school’s guidelines but also undermines the values of equity and pride that we work so hard to instill.

School uniforms help ensure that all students are on equal footing, free from the pressures of keeping up with the latest fashion trends or branded clothing. Students are not judged based on who has the newest "White Fox" hoodie or the latest basketball shoes, which fosters a more inclusive and supportive environment for learning. Uniforms also reflect the pride we take in our school, presenting a unified image to the broader community.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that all students come to school in the correct uniform each day. If there are any issues in locating uniform pieces or concerns with affordability, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school, and we will do our best to assist.

Thank you for your ongoing support in maintaining our school’s values and sense of community.

Warm regards,

Chris Short
