Week 2 was a busy week in the Visual Art Department with a number of events taking place, engaging students in a range of practical opportunities.
Year 9 students had the opportunity to work with professional photographer and educator Dr Joachim Froese, who spoke to students about his own photography practice which also includes the creation of salt prints and cyanotypes. Following an informative artist talk, he facilitated a practical workshop in the area of still-life photography, where students learnt about composition and lighting. These photographs will be developed into still-life paintings in future lessons.
In preparation for their first internal assessment, Year 11 students travelled to various locations along the Bramble Bay coastline and Brisbane River in order to develop a line of inquiry that they will investigate for their first body of work. The day saw us travel from the college to Shorncliffe foreshore, Boondall Wetlands, Pinkenba, Nudgee Cemetery, Griffith Art Museum, State Library to see the Brisbane Portrait Prize finalists and finishing with a walk along Fish Lane to view the street art dotted along the laneway.
