Friday afternoon kicked off with the final instalment of staff vs students for the 2024 seniors. After defeats in basketball, cricket, football and volleyball – the touch footy field was their final opportunity to get a win and prevent a historic clean sweep for the staff. With highly qualified referee, Peter Serone, on the whistle, the match got underway with the staff taking an early 2-0 lead. The game ebbed and flowed with the staff holding the lead throughout and despite a late rally from the students - the staff's ball control, composure and general footy nous were enough to take the chocs in a 6-5 victory. The boys have been great sports all year and have taken most defeats with humility and grace. These games are good fun for all involved and we look forward to starting the next series against the current Year 11s with a T20 Cricket match later this term.
Later that evening the Geoffrey House boarders (La Valla, Montagne and Hermitage) and a few older boys headed up to the hill for a pool party at Stuartholme. The boys always enjoy their time catching up with their boarding friends and we look forward to welcoming the Stuartholme girls back to Marist in a few weeks time.
On Saturday morning we had the pool and weights room open for a couple of hours before heading over to Tingalpa for an hour at the Bounce trampoline park. It was a great indoor activity with all the drizzly weather and helped the boys burn through some energy! An afternoon of touch footy and downtime in the dorm was good to close out the day.
On Sunday morning the La Valla and Montagne boys headed down to the Flats to take part in the Ashgrove Junior Park Run. It’s a short sharp 2km course around the Flats and a great way to start the day. With a pizza on the line for the quickest runner the boys came flying out of the blocks and Year 7 boarder, Derek Aubrey, was our winner with an impressive time of eight minutes and five seconds. Unfortunately, the rain hung around in the morning so we postponed our Cedar Creek trip and headed over to the Newmarket cinemas for the new Transformers movie instead. Another pool and weights room session rounded out the afternoon before heading up to the chapel for Sunday Mass.
