Homework!!
School homework consists of tasks assigned by teachers to be completed outside of regular school hours, aimed at reinforcing, practicing, and extending classroom learning. It is important because it strengthens understanding of topics, develops essential study skills like time management and responsibility, and helps parents stay involved in their child's education.
At PVN we value the importance of setting good routines for regular practice of previously introduced learning. Reading at home is crucial because it strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and boosts academic success, with studies showing it fosters a lifelong love of learning. For younger students reading their PLD word list and High Frequency words is equally important as they continue strengthen their decoding and fluency skills.
We believe effective numeracy homework should focus on quick-fire practice to build automaticity, covering addition/subtraction to 20, number bonds, and multiplication/division facts which you will find in our whole school numeracy checklist.
