Reading

In Reading this term, students have been thoroughly engaged in our class novel, Skellig. Over the first four weeks, they have explored the text closely by analysing characters, themes, and important events throughout the story. Students have especially enjoyed discussing the mysterious nature of the novel and sharing their thoughts and predictions with one another.

Writing

In Writing, students have been using Skellig as inspiration for their own narrative pieces. They have been focusing on fantasy writing, developing imaginative settings, interesting characters, and descriptive language. Students have worked hard to apply techniques from the novel to make their own stories more engaging and creative.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been focusing on fractions and decimals through a variety of hands-on learning activities. They have used practical materials, games, and collaborative tasks to strengthen their understanding of equivalence, ordering, and problem-solving. It has been wonderful to see students building confidence and applying their skills in different ways.

Discovery

In Discovery, students have been learning about Australia’s system of government, including local, state, and federal parliament. They have explored the roles and responsibilities of each level of government and discussed how decisions are made within our community and country. Students have shown great curiosity and engagement during discussions and activities.

Holstep  Health Incursion

Students have begun participating in the Holstep incursion program, which will run across the entirety of Term 2 with one session per grade level each week. The program focuses on important topics such as gender inequality, being an active bystander, and challenging the “it’s just a joke” mentality. Through discussions and activities, students are developing a deeper understanding of respect, inclusion, and the impact words and actions can have on others. The program will conclude with a hands on inquiry project, allowing students to apply and showcase their learning in a meaningful way.
