Sports Update 

DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY – RUNNERS NEEDED

Students are reminded to sign up for Division Cross Country no later than Tuesday the 5th of May. There will be a meeting held in the auditorium on Friday the 8th of May at lunchtime, with the day of competition to be held on Tuesday the 12th of May!

SPORTING EXCELLENCE

Australian Junior Track & Field Championships

Over the school holidays year 10 student Jack F and year 8 student Jared S competed at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships held in Brisbane.

Jack competed in the U16B 800m, clocking a time of 2:02.76, leading him to place 6th in his heat and rank 22nd overall out of 35 runners on the day. It was a tough race with plenty of racing tactics and jostling to navigate throughout.

Jared competed in 2 events. The first being the U16B 3000m final. Jared ran a time of 9:53.28 which placed him 22nd out of 25 runners. An impressive result for a 13-year-old running against some older competition! A couple of days later Jared took to the track again, this time for the U15B 2000m steeplechase. Jared completed the race in a blistering 6:48.52 placing him 7th out of 13 runners.

Congratulations to both Jack and Jared for representing Victoria at such a great event. You both have very bright futures ahead and are fantastic ambassadors for the sport of athletics here at Vermont.

STATE SWIMMING & DIVING

It was a busy couple of days poolside at MSAC last week with the SSV State Diving Championships being held on the Wednesday, and the State Swimming Championships held on the Thursday. VSC was represented by Adella K of Year 10 in diving and Ryan A of Year 11 for swimming.

Congratulations to Adella who placed 2nd at the SSV State Diving Championships with a score of 119.55.  

Well done to Ryan A of Year 11 who placed 2nd in the U16 boys 50m butterfly at the SSV State Swimming Championships last Thursday with a time of 27.88s. This was Ryan's first time making the State Championships for school.

An incredible effort by both students making those long training days well worth it!
