Active listening, paraphrasing and interview techniques

This week the Year 11 and 12 Work Related Skills and Literacy classes combined to build on their communication skills in a speed interviewing activity.  Year 12 students spent minutes interviewing individual Year 11 students on the topics of VET and VM. They were challenged to improve their use of eye contact, body language, not interrupting, paraphrasing and asking follow up questions.

We were pleased to hear the enthusiastic conversations and the sharing of experiences between the year levels.  Students were able to offer each other valuable advice while improving their interpersonal skills.

Youngster

We have now finished volunteering at the Vermont South library.  Participating students sadly farewelled regular clients.  We are extremely proud of the maturity of our students, the relationships they developed and the interest they showed in hearing life stories from another generation.

We will be back in Term 3 with our Year 11 students to provide tech support to people in the community as part of our intergenerational program.

Vermont Men’s Shed

Week 1 of the term saw the final session at the Vermont Men’s Shed.  We are looking forward to the picnic tables being delivered to the school for students to use at break times.  Many thanks to the Men’s Shed for supporting our VCE Vocational Major students for another year and a big thank you to Tom Smyth and Darren Davies for organising the materials and attending with the students each week.
