Vermont Secondary College
Year 7 students participated in their first ever fieldwork this term, as they ventured down to Bellbird Dell.

Students were investigating how Bellbird Dell enhances the liveability of Vermont. Well done to all the students on their excellent behaviour and thank you to all the staff who came with us! - Ms Allison
We are thrilled to report that Year 7 students have made a smooth transition into Term 2, with students embracing their learning with enthusiasm and positivity. Feedback from our Student and Parent Conferences and Term 1 reports, have made for a focussed start. We have seen students establish regular routines, organise themselves better and continue to make connections with staff and students.
Reflecting on Term 1, we saw numerous activities that contributed to this positive atmosphere. From camp to engaging classroom discussions to team-building exercises, students have had the opportunity to bond with their peers and teachers.
As we move into Term 2, we are excited to build on these connections and continue nurturing a community where every student feels valued and supported.
As we settle into the term, we want to address a couple of practical matters that will help keep our school environment organised and stress-free. Firstly, we have had a lot of issues with combination padlocks refusing to open or students just having difficulty remembering the combination. This results in the lock having to be cut off the locker. For this reason, we encourage students to use key padlocks for their lockers.
If you haven’t already, please ensure your child has a reliable padlock and consider keeping a spare key at the Student Managers’ office for added peace of mind. This small step can prevent unnecessary stress and help students focus on their studies and activities.
Another housekeeping matter is Sport. We have a new round of inter school sports starting this term. Participating in sports not only promotes physical health but also fosters teamwork and school spirit. We have a variety of sports available this term, keep an eye out for announcements on Year 7 Teams and the Sports Staffroom window for sign-up opportunities!
As the cooler months approach, we want to remind everyone about the importance of appropriate uniform choices and health considerations. We understand that staying warm and comfortable is essential for our students’ well-being and academic performance. Our uniform policy reflects our commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment while prioritising student health.
Please help your student make sensible choices about what Summer or Winter uniform options to choose at this time.
Also, as the seasonal sniffles arrive, we advise keeping your child at home if unwell. Students can still access their lesson plans at home, which might help them keep on top of missed work. We are keen for students not to miss school, sometimes this means one student staying home to prevent others becoming unwell too.
We also want to emphasise the importance of notifying the school about any absences via Compass, especially during this time of year when colds and flu can be more common. Let’s work together to ensure our students remain healthy and ready to learn!
