ANZAC Day Commemoration Assembly, March & Shrine Ambassador

On Tuesday 21st April we held Junior and Senior Assemblies to commemorate ANZAC Day. These were solemn events in which we considered the meaning of ANZAC Day and paused to remember and pay tribute to those who have died in war and the families and communities who are left behind. Thank you to Ben Healey, Ben Muddyman and our School Captains, Juliet O and James P, for their participation and leadership.

On ANZAC Day, Saturday 25 April, the Vermont Secondary College Marching Band joined thousands of others in supporting and paying tribute to returned service people through the annual march from Federation Square to the Shrine of Remembrance. The band, led by Ben Muddyman and some of our House Captains, Azzy B, Leanna B and Emily W, were superb.

Beyond our usual participation in ANZAC Day, we also have an example of outstanding personal excellence. Emily M. of Year 10, in her role as Shrine Young Ambassador, recited the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ at the Dawn Service. Emily spoke confidently and with great composure to an estimated audience of 55,000 people in person and many others online. On the day Emily met the Premier, the Minister for Veterans and many other dignitaries. The school contingent was delighted to meet with Emily later in the morning, hear of her exploits and enjoy some of the ANZAC biscuits she had baked. Emily deserves to be highly commended for her role contributions.

Germany Trip

Last week Tony Jacobs, Chelsey Paydon and 13 of our students returned from an incredibly successful trip to visit our German sister school in Kaufungen. Students from our school joined students from Mullauna SC in the trip, the second part of an exchange program that saw students from Germany visit us in 2025. This was the first time the trip has run since the disruptions of covid and we are delighted to be re-starting this important tradition. The trip was an opportunity for students to step outside of their everyday lives and gain a greater global perspective whilst refining their language skills.
