English

Reading and Viewing

Our Reading program will continue through the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Students will build their phonics knowledge by learning new sounds and practising blending and segmenting words. They will apply these skills when reading decodable texts, while also developing fluency and comprehension through a combination of whole class, small group and independent reading activities.

 

Writing

Students will continue to develop their writing skills through the Little Learners Love Literacy program, with a focus on spelling patterns, sentence construction and correct letter formation. Through our OCHRE resources, students will explore both informative and persuasive writing. Our focus texts this term include City of Light and Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover for informative writing and The Lorax and The Boy and the Elephant for persuasive writing. Students will learn to organise their ideas, use appropriate language features and create texts for different purposes and audiences.

 

Speaking and Listening

Students will continue to participate in a range of oral language activities across all learning areas, building skills in listening, turn-taking, questioning and confidently sharing ideas. Our Dojo Take Home Toy and Mystery Box will also continue this term. The roster is displayed on the classroom window - please let me know if you need to make any changes if your allocated dates are not suitable.

 

Parent Helpers

Parent helpers will begin in Week 4 of this term and will assist with Literacy group activities in the classroom. The roster has been shared via email. Please let me know if you need to make any changes.

Mathematics

This term, students will continue to build on their mathematical understanding across several areas. Students will extend their knowledge of place value by working with four-digit numbers. They will practise recognising, representing and ordering these numbers. In Measurement, students will explore length, mass and capacity. They will measure, compare and order objects using uniform informal units. Students will also continue developing their addition and subtraction skills. They will use partitioning strategies to solve two-digit problems as they begin transitioning towards more formal written methods.

Religion 

This term, students will explore two key topics: God, Religion & Life and Morality & Justice. In God, Religion & Life, students will learn about the concepts of beauty and goodness in relation to God as Creator. They will reflect on their relationships with God, self, others and the environment, and consider ways they can care for creation. In Morality & Justice, students will explore key scripture stories about love, forgiveness and stewardship. They will reflect on how their actions impact others and consider ways to care for their local community, understanding how people can live out these teachings today.

Science

This term, students will explore sound and light. In Sound, students will investigate how sound is created by vibrations and how objects vibrate to produce sound. They will explore ways to make a variety of sounds and test how different materials and actions affect volume and pitch. Students will also learn how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use materials and actions to create sound for specific purposes. In Light, students will explore how light can travel through air, water and some solids and how it is affected by these materials. They will describe how translucent, transparent, opaque and reflective materials interact with light.

Humanities

This term in Humanities, students will explore how places are represented and connected at local, regional, national and global levels. They will identify where they live in Australia and locate their state, territory and nearest capital city using maps and globes. Students will learn to locate the seven continents and five oceans and identify Australia’s position in relation to hemispheres, neighbouring countries and surrounding oceans. They will also explore how people and places are connected through communication and transport technologies. Students will deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives by distinguishing between Aboriginal Countries and Torres Strait Islander Places using language maps.

Wellbeing

Our Wellbeing focus this term will centre on developing students’ emotional awareness and social skills. Students will build their understanding of different emotions, what can trigger them, and how to recognise these feelings in themselves and others. They will also develop problem-solving skills and learn the importance of working together, cooperating with others and building positive relationships in the classroom.
