Level 4

As we pass the mid-point of term 1, we have been observing the level four students settling into their new classrooms and routines to produce some excellent pieces of work.

Reading

Reading has become a strong focus with students having a better understanding of the importance of selecting a ‘good fit’ book, and how to make sure they use reading time wisely with ‘real reading’ skills.

Writing

We are continuing with our Narrative writing skills and have been producing some amazing work using powerful WOW words to make our writing interesting.

Numeracy

Maths is always fun to explore. We have been developing and extending our skills in Place Value, working with our base 10 number system up to 100,000 and beyond. We are currently looking at 2D shapes, their properties and where they occur in our environment.

Inquiry

We have been exploring settlement in Australia as part of our Inquiry unit which has a strong History component. Students have been really interested in the changes which have occurred after European settlement, and the impact it had on First Nations people. We are sharing a book called ‘My Place’ which follows the changes over time.

Digital technologies are being used successfully in our classrooms as students are learning how to open and name documents, insert images and move documents into folders.

Congratulations to the students who were elected as Junior School Councilors. JSC is a great opportunity to use your voice to share in the decision-making process.

Level 4 Sport will be on Wednesday afternoons. We will be learning to play several major games so that we are ready to participate in the Gala Days when we are in year 5. Please wear suitable footwear on this day.
